When to book in Atlantic City

Late May through September is the shore's peak, and a summer Saturday means holiday traffic on the Expressway and the Parkway, full hotels and top rates; book 12 months or more ahead for a beach or Boardwalk date in that window. September and early October are the sweet spot, with warm water, thinner crowds and lower hotel minimums, though it is also the heart of nor'easter and hurricane season, so have an indoor plan. Winter on the island is windy but cheap, and the casino ballrooms are far easier to negotiate. Check the date against the August air show, the October marathon and any large convention on the Boardwalk.
