When to book in Springfield

Springfield's wedding season runs May through October, with late September and early October the most competitive Saturdays and June close behind. Lake Springfield and downtown venues book 12 months or more ahead for those dates. The Illinois State Fair takes over the city for a week and a half in August, filling every hotel and a good share of the caterers and rental companies, and the Route 66 car festival brings another crowded downtown weekend in late September. The legislature's spring session fills downtown hotels midweek but rarely touches weekends. Winter dates are the easiest to secure and typically the cheapest, and a snowy Capitol photographs well.
